Writing matters — whether during your studies, or in academic and professional life. The HSG Writing Lab helps you to develop your writing skills and to build your writing confidence.Therefore we offer different workshops. Participation is free of charge for HSG students and faculty.
Workshop: Research, Cite and Write (preparation for BA- und MA- thesis)

In cooparation with the HSG Library we refresh your knowledge in research skills, and basic academic writing routines in order to produce a well structured exposé for the final thesis.

Workshop: Structure and Argumentation
English: Thursday 29 October 2020 17.15-19.15
Argumentation is central to academic writing. This workshop introduces the
elements of a systematic argument, presents different argumentation methods
and discusses potential difficulties such as circular reasoning. It applies these
insights, establishes the various parts of an academic argument practises
convincing argumentation as well as identifying flawed reasoning.

Workshop: AcademicWriting in English
Thursday 25 June 2020, 17-19
English is on everyone’s lips, but what distinguishes English as a scientific
language from German and French, for example? This workshop explores
language-specific writing in English through practical exercises (sentence
structure, active/passive, use of the first and third person, punctuation, etc.). It
provides stringent writing principles as a basis for answering a crucial question:
“How best to produce written academic English that sounds English and is
acceptable to first-language readers?”
